OCCUPATION: Chief of JP's
ORIENTATION: Suspected to be asexual or gay. He expressed no interest in the female body in canon and I highly doubt he spare a thought for sex. He's usually too busy with work to think about it... except for whenever he need a heir to continue the Hotsuin line.
However, depending on how you interpret it, he also expressed his "yearning" and fascination for MC. But he wouldn't know what they are. (NOTE: Will edit this section accordingly once Break Record is out.)

Saniwa Sage
The Hotsuin is a spiritually powerful clan with strong connections to the government for many generations. Historically speaking, they’re neutral to the political battles, choosing to focus on protecting the people of the country from the supernatural. As long they can do their duty, they won’t interfere with politics even during the Sengoku era and watching who fought over for Japan’s future.
Fast forward to 2205. The Hotsuin still maintain their connection with the government and was allowed to maintain their relative neutrality in order to protect Japan. Along the way, they established a connection with both the military and the police as a part of efforts to deal with the supernatural.
This is what Yamato Hotsuin have known.
The current head of the Hotsuin clan’s main family, he was raised for the sole purpose of protecting Japan in the shadows. His supernatural powers was nearly unrivalled. He’s powerful enough to summon and subdued a number of powerful spirits. When the organisation approached him, Yamato agreed to join them as a Saniwa Sage. As far as he knows, protecting Japan’s history is another way of protecting the country his clan was tasked with. And if he died? Well, one of his relatives can take over the family.
But he doubts he'll die.

- Strict, tough and cold. Yamato tends to view his swords as pawns first instead of as people.
- Runs a meritocracy system. Swords who performed well will be rewarded and given opportunities to participate in more difficult missions. Yamato doesn’t care if a sword was a treasure or a decoration for most of their life, he wants them to do their duty and get results.
- Rotates his secretary from time to time. This is to give other swords a chance to experience being in a position of responsibility outside of battle, and to give his old secretaries a break. Swords who have proven themselves will be selected as secretary more often.
- Will veto swords from joining certain missions based on fatigue levels, morale and emotional stability. No, he won’t let Kashuu go to Ikedaya unless he can see Kashuu’s resolve, for example.
